WEEE Regulations

WEEE Logo

All electrical equipment now must be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way to help prevent further industrial pollution. As a professional trade supplier CNS Powertools has implemented WEEE Regulations to work with our customers to ensure all the batteries used in our extensive range of power tools are disposed of safely and correctly minimizing the impact on our environment.

WEEE Regulations Explained

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive is now UK Law. The legislation aims to make producers pay for the collection, treatment and recovery of waste electrical equipment. The regulations also mean that suppliers of equipment like Power Tools UK must allow customers to return their waste equipment at no extra cost.

The amount of WEEE we throw away is increasing by around 5% each year, making it the fastest growing waste stream in the UK, much of it ending up in landfill, where the lead and other toxins it contains can cause soil and water contamination. This can have a harmful effect on the natural habitat, wildlife and also human health. Many electrical products and batteries that are thrown away can be fully recycled. Recycling items helps to save our natural finite resources and also reduces the environmental and health risks associated with the sending of, or disposal of electrical goods to landfill.

Trade and wholesale distributors of new Electric and Electronic Equipment (EEE) have a part to play in reducing the amount of WEEE going into landfill sites but we need your assistance.

CNS Powertools Working With You To Recycle

CNS Powertools is a reputable distributor of battery powered and corded power tools is obliged under these regulations to offer our customer base a free take-back service of WEEE products.

Customers can bring their WEEE item to our store or send goods to us (Please do not send batteries by post). A suitable alternative to sending the tools back would be to dispose of them at a local recycling centre now available throughout the whole of the UK. The website www.recyclenow.com provides help and advice on all aspects of recycling and will advise you where you’re nearest Designated Collection Facility (DCF) can be located. You may ask what do we do with the recycled tools, CNS Powertools collect up tools and batteries and every 8 to 10 weeks ship them over to a professional recycling centre.

WEEE disposal symbolUnder the WEEE Regulations, all new electrical goods are marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. All genuine power tools sold by CNS powertools have carried this symbol since August 2005 and should be disposed of only by recycling and not disposed of through general waste. Get in the habit of disposing of your old tools in a responsible way, we all owe it to future generations, this is well worth doing because it makes a definite difference, the planet looks after us now it’s our turn to step up and do our bit.
